Goshawk; Northern goshawk Kanakull Accipiter gentilis
To start with, the goshawk pair nesting in Riga city had 4 greenish-white eggs in the nest already in the evening of Wednesday, April 13. With this the clutch was complete; incubation goes on and can last 35 to 42 days.
In the first part of the video the male, Mister Y, who is rather smaller than female Margo, is incubating, leaving quickly when the female arrives. Also note the difference in plumage colours. Most of the time we see the female incubating in the nest, the male only very rarely. We will see if and how Mister Y will manage to feed Margo in the conditions of a large city for the next one and a half months; it may turn out to be problematic.
It has been raining in Latvia for the last couple of days and the weather is chilly.
