M2 brought fish for Iiris. He is in a state of alarm. M1 is somewhere close.

M2 brought a branch. For some reason, all the material is placed on that side of the nest 8-)

Iiris's mate seems to alternate days (or hours). She seems to accept both.

Iiris and M2 have been on the nest or camera stand all morning. M2 does not fly away and even if Iiris lands on the nest, he immediately joins her.

Both on the nest again. Today Iiris continues to chase the crows.

It's snowing.
There were no fish all morning, although Iiris asked for them.

M2 sits on the camera stand most of the time. Sometimes it flies off to the toilet and comes back right away.

The branch was thrown by the wind into the center of the nest.

M2 jumped off the stand, looking around the forest. Today is a calmer day for him, and he is not flying away anywhere.
Probably decided not to let M1 back. M1 was close yesterday, there was no alarm today.
Only the crows disturbed Iiris a little.

Wow - it seems that M2 has staked his territory and M1 has given in a little. I was surprised by this, but then I'm not a male osprey at mating season. Nature surprises sometimes.
Thanks, Sappheira, for the consistent and excellent photos. The photos and your comments (and hand-drawn arrows) really tell the story of this nest.

HelenL44
Thank you for reading.

I didn't have time to answer during the day. About mating.
Last year M2 destroyed the nest and threw out all the eggs. This year Iiris agrees to mate with two males. If there are eggs, how will M2 react to them? He will be able to see if the egg is not his or not. That's an interesting question.

And who will stay in the nest...
Last season they argued over the nest all summer. Perhaps M1 will return. We'll see.

Iris flew out of the nest and chased the crows for an hour. Then she returned to the nest and flew away again.
