Ringers found a dead mother osprey from her nest in Iso-Huppio, Juva, Finland in July.
The autopsy showed that the osprey died because she was shot with a shotgun. And she didn´t die immediately but slowly to her nest where were 2 chicks. The 2 chicks were alive and their survival was up to their father.
Iso-Huppio is swamp reserve area in Finland. There are regularly nesting 5 osprey pairs and other endangered species. The penalty of killing an osprey in Finland is 1682,00 euros. The guilty is not yet found.
What makes this just so horrible and unforgivable is that the osprey was shot and killed in the nesting time. This makes me so sad and angry!
