Good morning, sveiki everybody!
Thank you very much Baiba and Pascale for your pics. and video!
06:03: Anna arrives on the nest, joined by Andris one minute later. They will be very busy with nest maintenance for the next two hours - until 07:55.

Anna, preening herself. You can well assess the stage of moult progress.

Anna:

07:55: Arrival of the 'Kid' - Ieva! She acts as if there was prey - and tries to make her parent leave.

Ieva leaves and returns quickly. Andris, quite cool, continues to arrange a branch.

08:02: Ieva, shortly before leaving at 08:04 (she left from the center branch):

- Sidenote: I found it quite interesting how the pair, Andris and Anna, behaved when meeting on the nest in the morning. It seemed they had to determine the tolerated closeness of the partner. If Andris was a little too close for Anna, she pecked at him - not overly aggressive, but rather clear. Both stretched their legs and their necks - ready to move backwards if required, and then continued their nest work. They looked out for Ieva, I think, and sometimes looked a little indecisive regarding what to do next. But of course, they know what to do - prepare the nest.

This was bonding behavior. They are strengthening their bond. It is also good to observe when they arrive in the spring.Susanne wrote: August 20th, 2024, 10:24 am

Thank you Liz!
Oh yes, this happens when you (= I, Susanne) are so focussed on documenting events on the nest all around the eaglet. You simply forget
that there is a pair of eagles displaying pre- and post-parental behaviour which is their normal bonding behaviour. (I'll have to keep in mind this "switching from one stage/situation to the other".)

Thank you YT-chat
for the time stamp!
09:37: Andris arrives with a mouse snack on the nest. Ieva is near and calling.

Snap! Thank you, Andris!

Susanne
you for all the work you have done
It's just great that you took the time.
A video of this visit
This was the most unsatisfying season for me this year. But unfortunately I was too handicapped to do more. Black stork was almost too much. Maybe it will get better after my eye surgery. I don't know.

To be honest: I was a bit lost without "my" White-Tailed Eagles at Matsalu

LESSER SPOTTED EAGLES IN LATVIA
The nature documentary tells about the life of lesser spotted eagles, showing the life cycle of the bird, but it is also a story about natural processes in a broader sense. The habitats necessary for a sustainable existence of lesser spotted eagles – old forests with large trees, meadows and pastures – are home to a great diversity of nature; therefore, by restoring habitats suitable for lesser spotted eagles, the diversity of the ecosystem as a whole is preserved. The film shows the processes of habitat restoration in Kuja Nature Park and Grivu Island in Lubana, highlights the lesser spotted eagle-friendly farming opportunities. For several seasons, the authors of the film followed the work of the project manager and ornithologist Jānis Ķuze inspecting the nests of lesser spotted eagles and working to ensure their protection.
Film produced by art center RUCKA, director and camera: Māris Maskalāns

I'm fed up. It takes many minutes to open the LK. I'll continue tomorrow. It's not my PC's fault. The Latvian and other forums open normally quickly. But the LK has been really annoying for weeks!
I think it was Anna's last visit. Last year she was here last time on September 11th. too

Thank you so much Liz for reporting! I had been cut off from the internet once again (since Aug 28), due to my landlord not paying bills. But today, I have procured a mobile WLAN-router, and now I'm independent of his arbitrary behaviour.
