June 03

07:43: Anna flies away and returns at 07:49 with fresh spruce.
08:35: Anna flies to the obs.trees and is back at 08:37 (a poop-pitstop, I guess).
09:49 ff.: A wood pigeon is calling.
10:13: Andris - good morning! - with a very chunky rodent (rat?) which Anna gulps down on the nest (she really has to work it down).
10:13:25: No resting time for Andris, he's off again from the left branch.

11:38: Andris with prey no.2 - another light-grey rodent, tail seemed long (LSEs just don't eat in slow motion. And if you use slow motion to rewatch, you óften get lost in "pixel-land", since whipping tails of prey, when swallowed, mix up with the background. Ugh.)

Image

Andris' face

Image

12:39: Anna sees someone in the sky. She then flies over to the obs.trees where you hear her calling.

12:42:37: LSE calls. Anna flies from the obs.trees to the right and seems to branch there in one of the neighbouring trees.
12:48 f.: Anna flies from the tree at the right (out of our sight) to one of the back trees.

Image

12:50: From there, she returns to the nest.

Image

It looked as if she tried to harvest a branch, but was not successful.

15:07: Nice wing stretch, lying, digging her beak deep into the nest. Then she is almost catapulted away from the eggs. Ooops!

15:09: Calling, Anna flies over to the obs.trees. More calling.

Quote YT-chat:" 2:10 PM Baiba 15:09 Anna saukdama aizlido
2:10 PM Baiba Varbūt piegāde ārpus ligzdas?" "Maybe delivery outside the nest?"
 Exactly my thoughts, Baiba! Usually Anna is silent when leaving to the obs.trees. Today, we've had this twice already. So: Two prey deliveries on the nest, and two suspected deliveries outside the nest.

15:12: Anna returns to the nest, calling.
- BTW, Andris hasn't had egg- and nest-time yet.

16:33: Andris with a big žurka - a rat. - Note: He carries this prey in his claws, not in his beak.

A little egg- and nest-time for Andris.
Andris with pine  :

Image

16:44: Anna returns with fresh spruce and trills Andris away (10 mins. - well, OK ...)

Image

- I have the impression that prey's size is increasing. (Due to seasonal availability?)

June 04

Good morning!

Thank you very much Baiba! for the video :D .

07:00: Andris with a rodent.

Image

Anna swallows it, flies over to a tree opposite the nest. She trills from there, a little louder, since she's further away and not on the nest.
Andris enjoys his egg- and nest-time.

Image

07:19/20: Anna returns with a pine branch, Andris has to leave.

07:36: Andris brings another pine twig and decides to deposit it by Anna's side.

Image

Thank you, bye-bye. (Anna trills softly).

Image

09:03: Andris with prey no.2: a rodent, same kind as previous one (?).

14:02: Andris with a mousy rodent. Anna swallows it and flies away to the obs.trees.

Image

Andris gets egg- and nest-time. A looong time!
Anna is constantly vocalizing: trilling and chirping, signalling: I'm here - and there. I've the impression that she flies around in the area and has quite some fun with whatever she does.

Big yawn:

Image

Andris then arranges sticks and twigs, preens, once more busy with nest interior (optimizing to his taste).
14:42: After 40 mins., Anna returns to the nest - with a spruce twig. A small one. Beak contact.

Image

Image

After covering the eggs, Anna continues to trill and chirp. Andris is still in the area - how dare he - and is seen at 14:47 flying past the nest at the left. NOW Anna is quiet again.

Good morning!

Quote YT-chat:"4:58 AM Baiba Labrīt visiem! 5:00 Anna aizlido
5:01 AM Baiba 5:08 Anna ar lielu egles zaru gandrīz netiek ligzdā" - Anna returns at 05:08 with a large spruce branch, stumbling at the front nest entrance.-Thank you for the time stamps!
06:52: Andris with a large rodent (rat?) which Anna swallows on the nest.

Image

Andris in a polite manner checks if access to the eggs is granted. - Yes!

Image

Anna is still busy with gulping down the food while Andris begins to work on the nest bowl interior.

Andris also uses the time to preen. - Anna: trill-trill.

Image

He leaves at 06:59.
08:02: Anna flies over to the obs.trees, with a small pine twig entangled in her plumage.
08:05: She returns with a new small pine twig.

- Slow slow we move to the 'hot (= hatching) phase' now. As I stated earlier, it will be quite challenging to detect a pip since egg#1 is adorned with dark spots here and there which may resemble a pip. I guess we will notice based on Anna's behaviour if something is going on in the egg. June 7 or 8 (egg#1 was laid on April 30).

11:09: Andris with prey no.2: it has a very long tail - rat, I'd say.

Image

13:26: Next delivery - quick and with a view-blocker ->Anna. All I can say - because I didn't see more - : it's a rodent. :mrgreen:

Image

13:33: Anna returns with a twig.
14:53 ff.: Light rain.
16:28 ff.: Quote YT-chat  thank you! "3:33 PM Rhonda Stanford 16:28:41 picks up feather. 16:32 feather still in beak 😂"

Image

16:58:49: Anna flies away with the feather to the obs.trees and returns at 17:06, without anything.

17:11 ff.: Some turmoil in the sky, Anna is listening and watching. It sounds like crows -> alarm calls. We rarely hear these corvids in the area, right?

Image

18:18 ff.: Eagle Yoga - right wing - preening of breast -...

Image

... and left wing. She looks so concentrated.

Image

- Today, I've the impression that Anna is very relaxed and calm.

18:37: Andris with a vole (? tail not so long)

Image

Anna trills Andris away and pokes in her nest bowl.

Image

18:46 ff.: Shrill voices can be heard. Has Andris met a goshawk? Long goshawk whistles and calls. Anna is listening and watching.
Ah, thank you Feja, YT-chat, , quote:":5:57 PM Feja Labvakar! 18.42 Miks atnesa medījumu. Andris droši vien redzēja." -GT:"Good evening! 18.42 Mick brought the game < = prey>. Andris probably saw it."

18:59: Anna trills at Andris, branching at the right. He has just come back from his goshawk encounter.

Image

He leaves and flies away to the left.

20:12 ff.: Meditating with a "broom" in the beak.

Image

Watching a bird that sings his evensong.

Image

Today, Anna poked more often in the nest bowl than before.

Just a quick note on my own behalf: I will be traveling tomorrow. I'll try to tune in in the afternoon. Feel free to post!

Good night!
