8:33 Breakfast for the children. Mona brings a good piece of food.
Image

The chicks are greedy and boisterous, and feeding is proceeding in a disciplined manner.

Feeding is over, and Mona stays with her chicks for now.
They stand, full and content, on the edge of the nest, pecking lovingly at each other for a long time.

09:54 Mona leaves the nest and immediately returns with a fir branch. She squeezes it between her chick and the trunk...
Image

The branch is redecorated a few times. True to Mona's instructions, it ends up lying where it was.

12:38 Mona walks into the nest with a thin pine branch and fusses around a bit.

After a brief pause, she leaves the nest again.

13:27 Mona brings bark. A nice piece, but not what the children expected.

They beg quietly.
Mona leaves the nest, calls outside for a while, and the children in the nest respond to their mother's calls. They call out, too.

13:40, a few minutes later, Mona brings some delicious food to the nest.
Image

The chicks are feeding and happy.
The older one swallows another leg, while Mona watches closely.

Mona eats some more herself and carries another piece out of the nest.

Left behind are two bundles of joy in the battlefield and three more pieces of food that look like bones or pieces of cartilage.

Then nothing happens for a few hours.
The chicks slumber or occasionally wander around the nest.
Image

17:17 Mona appears in the nest and brings a twig with her.
Image

She leaves the nest into the nearby deciduous tree, breaks a twig, and returns to the nest.
Image

The older chick trills with its mother again. It sounds cute. :innocent:

20:59 The siblings are lying next to each other, dozing. The younger one, I think, is trying to scratch his head on the back. In doing so, he accidentally and unintentionally touches the older sibling a few times.
Image

The older one then starts pecking his sibling again. He runs after him and pecks again.
Image

Image

The girl really has a short fuse and seems to get irritated easily.
It's over quickly, and nothing happens. I imagine they're older and stronger...

22:24 What a late joy!
Mona brings food, which is very welcome. In barely five minutes, everything is eaten, and the chicks are full.

22:31 The younger sibling now has to use his toes.
Whatever it is that irritates the older sibling, he pulls and bites the other sibling's toe. The other sibling squeaks, showing that it's uncomfortable and painful. He tries to escape the situation, but the older sibling doesn't let go.

Hallo. :2thumbsup: Polly, Sova. :hi:
...two chicks have already been stolen from the osprey nest (DE)....no, it wasn't a goshawk, it was a red kite.

He was as fast as a goshawk...
I'm really sorry. I never would have expected the kite to become a threat. I was very happy to see the two kites this spring.
I hadn't heard of any nest attacks by the Red Kite.

I did recently see some very fast dives by the Red Kite, but they could have been during mating season. They certainly have the ability.

Also, many years ago, the Kite chased a Falcon with a pigeon to try to steal it. A male or female Falcon with a large pigeon is slower than the Kite ( Kleptoparasitism ).

Good evening, Emiliano, everyone!

The little osprey is doing well until this evening. I'm still very moved, too.

The livestreams shows us many facets. I also didn't know that great tits can be carnivorous killers. They kill blue tits in their nests.
Or that magpies actively hunt and kill songbirds. Until now, I thought they were just nest predators. No, they also hunt outside.

It's shocking, but that's just the way animals go.

It was an exceptionally balanced and good day here in the nest.
The girls were fed like goddesses, and there were no arguments. On the contrary, today there was a lot of pecking and mutual closeness.

I'll document this day later. It was too beautiful and too important not to. :innocent:

As mentioned in Nest Riga, I won't be able to be there for a while.
I ask anyone who can to please document any unusual situations. Thank you... it would be really appreciated.
