Hi everyone! :hi:

While there is nothing to report there yet with regard to black storks, Birdmap has now been updated to spring 2025.

Let's hope all of our birds reappear soon and return safely.

 Hulbi Lorm,

what can be a reason that the other storks haven't appeared on the map yet? Haven't they started their migration yet? Many black storks have already reached their nests in Poland.

Hi Berta,

The "bird of the Red Sea" made some pics of a black storks today. So maybe our other birds will occur very soon.

Hi Berta :hi:,

I'm just as clueless as you are... Kergu's data is also appearing very irregularly. I'd guess he's already in Bulgaria or Romania if all is going well and he kept his speed going.

Of course there's always the danger that some storks don't return, and the possibility that transmitters have given up. But it's hard to believe that happened in all cases except Kergu.

We can only wait and cross our fingers... :puzzled:

As regards the Polish black storks, do they migrate on the western route? I have the impression that migratory birds on the western route were quite early this year.

I was curious, so I had a look at the Birdmap of earlier years at this time. And it's really not that irregular that it's still so silent.

Shown below is the situation two years ago. Most of the tracked storks were still in Africa. Kergu was a front-runner then as well. Also, Kuremari and Waba were still in Ethiopia this time last year. So let's just wait and hope for the best.

Hi everyone!

KUREMARI
Kuremari sent the first (still incomplete) data. :loveshower:
Thanks for noticing, Francesca!

S/he is currently in Egypt, not far from the Red Sea, west of Quseer and south of Safaga.

El Qoseir (Arabic: القصير, romanized: el-Qoṣēr, pronounced [elʔoˈsˤeːɾ]) is a city in eastern Egypt, located on the Red Sea west coast. Populated for approximately 5,000 years, its ancient Egyptian name was Tjau, while its ancient Greek name during the Ptolemaic era was Myos Hormos. Historically, it was the endpoint of the Wadi Hammamat trail, an important route connecting Egypt and the Red Sea.
El Qoseir is located 138 kilometers south of Hurghada, 130 km north of Marsa Alam and 68 km north of the Marsa Alam International Airport. In 1986, its population was approximately 20,000. Today, the population of El Qoseir is around 50,000.

Kerli, Nurme and Trauma are in Bulgaria right now, Kergu is on the border between Belarus and Lithuania, he made a lot of progress in one day. Unfortunately, Kergu's and Kerli's final data points for the day are making me a little nervous - both were near roads, and in Kergu's case, I think there is also a power line. So, let's hope our birds stay safe and the next update will show them further along their way.
