Last Friday white egret Snehurka got a ball of ice and snow, stuck to his left wing, and he looked like ill. Libor caught him and removed the ball and Snehurka "recovered".
Yes, Snehurka turned out to be a male, not a female.
Today in the morning female mute swan Beta suddenly died for some unknown reason, probably bird flu. The pond will be dried and all the other birds moved to aviaries.
She was at least 15 years old but probably much older, 'cause she was already adult when appeared in Makov. White storks can live in captivity up to 40 years, but Marushka had many diseases.
Makov: the fourth storklet is now in "usual Makov regime": taken away about 8 a.m. and returned at 1.32 p.m. Some time ago they planned that the chick will be put in the other nest, but luckily the storklet grew enough to stay with the siblings. https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php? ... 4821425598
The fifth saved storklet from white stork nest in Russia. It was much smaller than the siblings and the parents put it on the edge of the nest and prepared for elimination. Luckily people saw it, climbed the nest and took the storklet. Now it lives in the aviary. It is fed with earthworms, rats, mice and fish.
